Reviewing Career Options?
It has been noted that since the pandemic there has been a huge change in the way organisations and people are now seeking roles. We have found that candidates are now in a great position to go out and seek and negotiate new roles and terms with organisations as the competition has increased to secure the best candidates organisations are now doing more to attract and retain the best talent in the market.
Since the pandemic, with people being made redundant from their positions candidates either found alternative careers or relocated to sustain their incomes, this meant that many sectors have now reduced the pool of candidates and are struggling to make their quotas and find staff to fulfil open vacancies. The hospitality and event sectors were heavily affected by the pandemic due to the sustained period of closure to the industry many of the candidates from the sector so alternative careers and are reluctant to go back.
Research conducted by the Office of National Statistics found that a “record 1.2 million job vacancies in the three months to November 2021, more than half the businesses who reported a worker shortage stated they were unable to meet demands”. This is further evidence to prove that it is more challenging for organisations to find staff than pre-pandemic.
What does this mean for candidates?
The recent pandemic has meant that candidates are now in a good position to go out and research and have confidential and research and have confidential discussions with organisations and prospective employers to find out if a career change could be right for them. Increasingly candidates that do move during this time are finding that they’re receiving higher remuneration packages and better additional benefits including flexibility of hours of hybrid working to gain their commitment and to attract them to these positions.
Again, research by the office of National Statistics has identified worker shortages across various sectors including the health services and public health sector, this includes all manager and director-level jobs. The residential care sector is heavily struggling to recruit staff as well and we find that again the domiciliary care managers are in high demand, additionally, there’s a huge demand for engineers and civil engineers too.
